January 6, 2009 — Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation’s Coshocton, OH, containerboard mill completed 2008 without a recordable injury based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
“The Coshocton Mill’s success at working safely is a reflection of the commitment and dedication of every employee at the mill. It also reflects on Smurfit-Stone’s commitment to the safety of everyone in our entire organization and providing the processes and support to ensure that all of our employees go home healthy,” said Sonny Jackson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Smurfit-Stone’s Containerboard and Forest Resources Division.
The 176 hourly and 45 salaried employees at the mill worked 507,766 hours without an injury, and did so while exceeding the mill’s production goal by more than 400 tons during the one-year period.
General Manager Dan Truett, of the Coshocton Mill team, said this is the first calendar year the Coshocton team has ever achieved zero recordable injuries.
“This tops off a really good year for the Coshocton team,” Truett said. "The people at this mill are committed to maintaining a safe work environment, and our safety processes are something we work on every day.”
