Hartsville, S.C. – Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest global diversified packaging companies, has announced that its Sonoco Flexible Packaging division in Terrebonne, Canada, has achieved IDEAlliance’s G7 Master Press certification for flexible packaging printing. This was using plates and separations from Keating North America in Toronto. Certification is based on the visual appearance of the final product as determined by an industry-standard color calibration process.
Originally developed for lithographic printing, the G7 certification process works equally well for flexographic printing. The process outlines methods to calibrate proofing systems and presses based on principles of digital imaging, spectrophotometry and computer-to-plate technologies. The goal of G7 is to simplify calibration and help printers reliably achieve a close visual match from proof to press and from press to press. By implementing these industry-standard specifications, printers achieve sharper images, increased color contrast between solids and highlights and a wider range of color tones.
“G7 Master Printer Certification lets our customers know that we can offer the same excellent quality in printing that they receive from other print processes,” said Eric Frantz, plant manager at Sonoco’s Terrebonne, Canada, flexible packaging facility. “It also proves that flexographic printing capabilities have come a long way over the past few years and certainly justifies Sonoco’s investment in new presses and equipment at this location. It’s simply another example of Sonoco taking the steps necessary to provide its customers with the highest-quality products.”
