The 2012 College Challenge competition is happening first this year.  It will be held March 17-18 in San Antonio, Texas, in conjunction with the FFTA Annual Forum and INFO*FLEX event.  In its 5th year and growing, this event draws from leading graphic communications higher education institutions such as Clemson University, CalPoly State University, Dunwoody College and many more.  The college program continues to encourage the further development of graphic arts education and career skills support.  The college level competition further expands student participation by including in-depth planning and development of consumer packaged goods designs while also incorporating achieved knowledge and skill of flexographic printing.

The 15th annual High School Skills Competition will be held April 25-27 at the Harper National Flexographic Center at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina.  This high school competition sets the stage for young flexographers to compete with each other, showcasing their knowledge of flexo printing theory and graphic arts. About The Phoenix Challenge Foundation
Founded in 1998, the Phoenix Challenge Foundation is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization of industry professionals dedicated to the recruitment and development of the future workforce for flexography.  Each year flexo students and teachers from throughout the U.S. and Canada are invited to the Phoenix Challenge Competitions. The High School event is a two and half-day skill-based competition with hands-on and comprehension testing in operating a flexo press, prepress, plate-making, and overall flexo knowledge.  Winners are eligible for scholarships funded by the Phoenix Challenge Foundation. To date, $30,000 in scholarships has been awarded to encourage students to pursue further education and a career in flexography.  The Phoenix Challenge College Competition is a school year long event in which an industry problem is presented to the students and requires both market and manufacturing research. Students then present to a panel of industry judges which grade them in four different categories research, concept, graphics and execution.
