Apirl 2010 — The Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) presented its Technology of the Year Award on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at a banquet during its annual Management Meeting, March 21-24, 2010, at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.
Nordmeccanica has received the award 2010 in the Coating Laminating Category for the 3-ply solvent free laminator: One Shot.
The judges liked the equipment's ability to streamline the lamination process and its sustainability benefits. "Eliminating solvents is great step forward," noted one member of the judging panel.
The patented One Shot is designed to perform a 3-ply solvent free lamination for flexible substrates in one single pass, using solvent free adhesives on both coating stations. Target is achieved by bringing 3 substrates at one single lamination nip. The location of the rewind, immediately after the single lamination nip, allows for perfect control of the process and stability of the laminated compound despite the very low shear resistance allowed by solvent free adhesives.
One-shot is production proven to be the first laminator to allow for easy and reliable handling of 3-ply Solvent Free adhesive lamination of flexible structures in one pass. Converters have finally access, with short and long terms benefits, to a simpler, less expansive, energy saving, process featuring no emissions and significant waste reduction. Machine, announced at Drupa 2008 in Dusseldorf, and, for the US, presented at AIMCAL Fall Technical Conference 2009 was enthusiastically received by converters, adhesive manufacturers and personalities in the industry. Quoted as the most significant advance in adhesive lamination machinery since the introduction of the compact laminators design in the 90s (another innovation that Nordmeccanica brought to the industry). Machine comes to serve a market were: adhesive lamination in general, Solvent free lamination and single pass multi-ply adhesive lamination in particular, are all growing yearly at double digits rates.
