The Des Moines Register • June 16, 2010 —
Alcan Packaging eliminated 65 jobs earlier this month but has no plans for further cutbacks at its Des Moines plant, a company spokeswoman said.
Kristine Pavletich, spokeswoman for Bemis Co., which owns the Alcan plant at 1500 E. Aurora Ave. in Des Moines, confirmed that the company cut 62 hourly and three salaried positions earlier this month "due to the loss of customer account."
The plant, which makes food packaging, had 262 employees before the layoff.
"Obviously, production continues at that plant," Pavletich said. "It's a well-run facility. ... Our plan is to continue to seek out new customers and new business and continue to grow that business in Des Moines."
